Life on the road is certainly different than life at home. It’s interesting though, after a few weeks you settle into many of the same patterns as home. Today was one of those days. Normally on vacation, you feel like you need to be on the go the entire time. After all, time is limited and you want to pack as many things in as possible. These trips aren’t like that, we have lots of time. So if it rains, if we miss some attraction, or if we just want to sit around for a day, it’s ok. Today we chose the latter option, we basically hung around, just like we do occasionally at home. And it was good.
Kari did some knitting and yoga, I wrote a few things and paid a couple bills. We hung on the beach for sunset and to get a little internet/news. Afterward we headed to the Coastal for dinner. It was fantastic-pan fried haddock, veggies, and a baked tater for me, a grilled scallop salad for Kari. Check em out:
Oh yeah, we did a little battle too. In chatting up our camp neighbors (I know it’s hard to believe Kari would do that…) Kari discovered that we were in a black fly infestation. It’s apparently localized, and was later than normal. No shit. Maybe that’s why we both had these huge welts that were turning us into a version of Wolverine. We didn’t just scratch those itches, we clawed at them.
Here's our secret weapon, the Thermacell. It's a battery powered device that shoots out a light fog of toxic chemicals I can’t identify, and seems to do a pretty good job repelling bugs. It’s the second tool in our growing arsenal, following the low tech fly swatter we bought a few weeks ago.
Finally, we had a good karma moment when Kari discovered that the lady in the camper next to us was named Shirley. Surely this was a good sign…
